Birthplace: Philadelphia Pa
Current Location: Glenside Pa
Education: Arcadia Univeristy
Preferred Medium: Photography
Site: All of them
Artist: Brad Carney
Jobs at Site: Photographing, documenting and interviewing Interns and their projects
Why did you return to this job again? When Jane and Brad asked me to come back I couldn't refuse. Working in my field for such a fantastic organization was great last year and has been great so far this year too. Being able to see all of the different projects is always interesting.
Future Plans: I hope to finish my degree and begin working as a Photographer and still be able to do my own work on the side.
Favorite Mural: I think it's still the Peace Wall/Grey's Ferry. I've seen so many throughout the years and it still sticks with me or the "This we Believe" mural. Not only do i know the one artist and did I help paint part of it I think its a gorgeous mural.
Personal Questions:
What are you listening to? Owl City is my current obsession. His lyrics are so different and even his sad songs still make me happy.
Favorite Color: That still changes from day to day depending on my mood. Today its blue.
Favorite Food: I love asian and mexican food but that depends on what i want.
Favorite Season: I think I like Spring and Fall the most.
Favorite Emotion: My favorite emotion is contentment.
If I could be an animal: I'd have to be a panda.
Favorite Place on Earth? The beach especially Cape May
Did you remember sunscreen? I have SPF 75 in my bag right now.
How do you think Art can change the world? I think it can be a way to bring peoples attention to world issues. But i also think art that is just beautiful has an impact on the world too.

Meet Amanda Brandt
Amanda Brandt was chosen to create this Blog. Her intern responsibilities include: site photography, interviews with interns and muralists, updating the blog and other online sites that will be available for view by our new online public. This is something brand new for the Summer Internship and we are happy to have her aboard.
Interview with Amanda Brandt:
Name: Amanda Brandt
Age: 18
Birthplace: Philadelphia
Current Location (excluding internship): Broomall
Education: Arcadia University, Fine Arts Major with a concentration in Photography
Preferred Medium: Photography
Site: All of them
Artist: Brad Carney
Jobs at Site: Documentation of the internship program
Job Questions:
Why did you apply for the internship? I'd worked with Mural Arts before for a school project my junior year and I'd liked their program.
What do you plan on gaining from this experience? I'd like more practice in documentation, photography, and blogging, and being able to get around Philadelphia (I'm a suburb girl) without getting lost would be a plus.
Future Plans? An artist; I don't really know yet. Hopefully a foundation to help people.
Favorite Mural? The Peace Wall is definitely my favorite one.
Personal Questions:
What's are you listening to? Right now? A genius mix off of Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls which is my favorite song.
Favorite Color? It really depends on the day... it kinda changes.. today it's blue.
Favorite Emotion? My favorite emotion would be hysterical laughter. It's so much fun.
If you could be an animal...? I'd be something cute; a horse or a panda i think.
Favorite place on Earth? My two favorite places to be are Cape May Beach and Arcadia University. I like any place that is quiet and peaceful.
Did you remember sunscreen? Oh yeah, otherwise I'd burn till I turned into a lobster.
How do you think art can change the world? I think all art, whether its music, art, dance or another medium inspires emotions. You should see something or hear it and it should change you. With enough art, we can change the world a little bit at a time.
Shemise Evans Round Two
Shemise was working with Anne Northrop on the Independence charter school project. She was working in the same room as the other interns painting a part of the background. she continued to paint while we spoke, easily mixing the paints.
How has the experience been so far? It's been great, working on all the different sites has given me alot of chances to learn from alot of different artists.
What was the most interesting thing to happen on site? One of the guys was doing some work when some kids stole the keys to his lift. We caught them before they got far, but he would have been stuck about three stories up if we hadn't.
What is your favorite form on trasportation? Car of course.
How have you seen art change the community? The kids from the camps here come in every once and a while and they're inspired. They like the idea of this mural going up by their playground.
Favorite Philly landmark? Love Park
Best Place to eat? I don't eat out, my mother cooks everything wel.
What is your favorite part of the mural? THe sky at that will be at the top of the wall is really nice.
David Thompson- Round Two
Dave was working farther down the parachute cloth, working on the pale violet swirls that were on the orange background. I sat down across from him, noticing the words "the other Dave" on his shirt. Since the sites lead artist is also named Dave there had been a lot of mix-ups.
How has this experience been so far? Its been fun rather than a learning experience. I've been a part of Mural Corps. and have done a few murals myself so this is just enjoyable.
What is the most interesting thing that's happened? We've had a graffiti problem with the mural, so the local news and the police came a few days ago. That was interesting, but not in a good way.
What is your favorite form of transportation? A car, you just have your own space and you don't have to worry about other people.
How have you seen art influence the community? Well, it has influenced them to make their own art.... on top of ours. But its also helped with the drugs and it's helped to bring the neighborhood a bit closer together.
What is your favorite Philly landmark? The skyline.
Best place to eat? Wawa
What is your favorite image in your project? There are these hands making a tree with the ocean behind them, I like that the best.
What is your favorite part of the project that you yourself have worked on? President Obama's portrait.
