My next stop for today was just down the street in West Philadelphia at a large warehouse studio of Shira Walinsky. Her intern Shemise Evans was painting a pair of parachute clothes in the hall while Shira helped some students with their painting in her studio. The mural was scattered throughout the hall but Shemise filled me in as she painted. The mural, to be hung by Germantown High School, was commissioned by a woman who's daughter was killed by domestic violence. Though the subject matter is sad, the murals colors are bright and appealing. Everyone working on the project hopes it will raise awareness for domestic violence.

Job Questions:
Why did you apply for the internship? I've been in the program for the past three years and was offered a chance to apply for the internship. I was excited to be able to work one on one with the artist rather than in a classroom setting.
What do you plan on gaining from this experience? I plan on improving my work ethic and I'm sure I'll come out with a greater respect for the mural artists and the work that they do.
Future Plans? I'm going to NYU for Film making. I hope to start with documentaries before doing Narrative pieces.
Favorite Mural? My favorite mural is "The Value of Family" on 5th and Spring Garden.
Personal Questions:
What are you listening to? I'm stuck in a musical phase right now, i got so many on my ipod.
Favorite color: Piink (she sang her answer to that question)
Favorite Food: My mother's mac and cheese. I'm saying her's because a lot of people don't make it right.
Favorite season: Spring
Favorite emotion: Laughter
If you could be any animal...? I'd be a dolphin, but any water animal is great.
Favorite Place on Earth? My bed.
Did you remember sunscreen? Today yes, but it takes a lot for me to burn.
How do you think art can change the world? The biggest thing it does is brings issues to attention, and make people notice them. They talk about them and that's when change can happen.
