Meet Jonathan Devila

Today I arrive at 15th street and Federal Street in South Philadelphia. As with most of the large murals you can see the project all the way down the street. It was huge, spanning every wall around an enormous empty lot. The mural is created with bright colors and a picture of two people hugging so far. The harder you stared the more you could pick out other items. Since artist Donald Gensler was not present at the time I couldn't ask him what was his inspiration. I will come back soon to get that information. Jonathon was on a ladder painting a silhouette of a woman when I started our interview.

Job Questions:

Why did you apply for this internship? I applied for this internship because in the fall I'm going to be a marketing major. I thought this would be a fun way to get some art into my life before i left and it become hard to have art. I wanted to learn more about the process and since I had worked with Mural Arts before this internship has been from an entirely different perspective.

What do you plan on gaining from this experience? I hope to learn more about the mural process as well as getting more information on working on murals in New York City.

Future Plans? I hope to get my passport and go to London next summer.

Favorite mural? A mural I helped to paint in Rockefeller Center in NYC

Personal Questions:

What are you listening to? I'm listening to Lady GaGa, Killers, King and B.I.G

Favorite Color? It'd have to be black.

Favorite Food? Seafood.

Favorite Season? Winter

Favorite Emotion? I like being jolly.

If you could be an animal...? I'd be a dinosaur, I'd love stomping on buildings.

Favorite Place on Earth? New York City.

Did you remember sunscreen? No I never really wear it.

How do you think art can change the world? I think painting and art in general help distract people, that's why with this economy people are spending more on the arts, they want to be distracted.
